Welcome to the NAD project

The NAD Project

"NAD" is the Sanskrit word for sound. The NAD Project is a 5 month long exploration of the music of India, from the ancient classical traditions, to the newest fusion and electronica. From December 2004 to May 2005, musician Tarun Nayar will be our field correspondent, based in Mumbai, India. Stay tuned for concert and festival reviews, interviews with musicians, and articles on Indian music. We'll also be posting fresh pictures, audio and video every few days. You can keep up to date on Tarun's musical meanderings in his daily blog. Tune in to the NAD Experience!

Tarun Nayar is a tabla player, trained since childhood in the Punjab style by his Guru, Dr. Narendra Verma. He has recently received a Shastri Arts Fellowship to study tabla in Mumbai. The NAD Project was born out of his desire to share his experiences in India and his love of Indian music with music fans around the world.

Close your eyes, and imagine waking up to the street sounds (.mp3, ~3MB) of New Delhi in the morning... vegetable vendors, kids playing, and a muslim call to prayer intermingle in a spicy aural masala.
