Practice Daze
I've entered a little bit of an alternate reality over the last week or so. My social life has virtually disappeared, I rush through meals, I haven't checked email in days (!). Virtually every waking hour I spend playing, preparing, or listening to tabla. I guess my training has begun in earnest. I wake up, practice, eat lunch, practice, and then head out to my tabla class, which stretches from about 6pm to 10pm every night. And then repeat. I'm in a very comfortable music bubble, and nothing else seems to matter. Classes are intense; our Teacher, Rakesh, has obviously taken teacher training at some wacko fitness center, or the army; actually, probably both. He works us into the ground every night, mercilessly. He's a beautiful guy, but holy man is he a taskmaster. It reminds me of when I used to swim competitively... I think tabla could be the next olympic sport. And he walks the walk! He was recently awarded the Guiness World Record for playing the tabla for 36 hours straight last year! He's going for 37 this year...
I'll come up for air in a few days and let you know how things are progressing ;o)

Tarun, you are totally my hero...I bet you could beat the 37 hour record...we could just prop you up with a lot of pillows and take turns hosing you down with cold water if you show signs of slowing down.
We want to hear some music!
ok, so who's anonymous?
